You were Poked by…
Posted by Piseth under Computer Tips, Internet | Tags: facebook, Poke, poked, Poker |1 Comment
Have you ever been notified of you being POKED by your friend on Facebook? Do you know or want to know what it means? Then I will show you, and I am sure you may somehow like it.
Screenshot of me being poked with Pokers’ identities erased
POKE is a special feature of Facebook with the sole purpose to draw another user’s attention. You receive poke alert because one of your friend on Facebook wants to attract your attention. It can also mean that they are saying HI or HELLO to you, so to reply, you can also Poke them back. The other use of poke is to alert Facebook friend so that they may browse your profile and read your new status or upload. It is similar to TAG in some case. However, unlike TAG, you can Poke your friend anytime even without posting or uploading any picture.
When you are poked, you will see a poke icon with a message that says, “You were poked by,” and the name of the poker. It also has an option to “Remove Poke” and another one to “Poke Back.” Some people use this feature to Poke friends back and forth as the way of playing game until either of them gives up.
To get even clearer picture of it is to think of when you are walking in a public place and at a sudden, one of your friend (who is not joining your walk) sees you and then s/he comes to you and taps you from behind and say HI.
Another picture is to think of when your friend Alarm Calls you on the phone. Sometimes, they alarm call you because they miss you, want to surprise you, alert you that they have just sent you a text message and to read it. I am sure you know many more purposes of making the alarm call.
However, one can only poke a confirmed friend, someone in a shared network, or a friend of a friend.
I hope you like it.

Do you wish to follow the climate change negotiations within the COP17/CMP7 to the UNFCCC which is being held in the beautiful city Durban of South Africa, but you just can’t do that because you have to follow many interesting side events? That is not a big deal. The UN climate change secretariat (UNFCCC) has developed an application software to provide quick and easy access to essential information about the UN Climate Change Conferences taking place during the year and to allow virtual participation in the events. With this app, you will be able to track news update of the negotiations, alerts of side events, schedule, documents and a few other features. So now you won’t lose any updates about COP17/CMP7 wherever you are in the world even though you are not participating this conference physically.
However, this app is only available for iOS device users. Hopefully, they can make one for android-based devices so that almost everyone can follow this important climate talk.
The app is available for free download on the App Store. Thus, if you are using iOS device, just go to App Store in your device and type Negotiator or UNFCCC and from there you will be able to install it just make sure you have the App Store account. If not you can just create one and here you go.
The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 7th Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol, are now in progress in the sunny city of Durban, South Africa.
Just for your further information, there is another iOS app developed by SIEMENS dedicated for this climate talk with location map, and related information updates. You can just go to the App Store and type COP17 and you will be able to get it for free. Enjoy the updates with these two apps.

Joined Green Tour on the Second Day of COP17/CMP7
Posted by Piseth under Climate Change, Events, Other Topics, Photo Posts | Tags: Green Tour, Greening |Leave a Comment
Today which is the second day of the 17th Conference of Parties known as COP17/CMP7, I joined the Green Tour which is conducted to promote the awareness on Green initiatives in Durban. We when to some places where green projects are being implemented. It was such a nice tour to explore this beautiful city.
Green Tour Bus each loads around 18 people. It starts each day from 10AM or a bit later and it will last no more than 4 hours. To be part of it, one has to register ahead of the start of the Green Tour or you can also try your luck without registering just in case there is someone not going. However, you are strongly advised to register ahead to make sure the seat is reserved for you. Along the way, facilitators explained us about their green initiatives and some related fact about Durban. After some traveling, there was a short break during which organic snack was provided at a pleasant and natural location. As part of this Green Tour, we also had a chance to meet the local tree-preneur and visit the site where indigenous plants are grown.
All local tree-preneurs can grow whatever types of trees they want but they are trained to select trees that are not invasive and alien. Then they can then exchange it for a note which they can use for buying food and paying their children’s education fees. They are not paid by cash as they believed that if those women are paid by cash, the cash may be improperly used by the husbands. Following are some of the shots from this tour.

More than 20 000 people including the South African president H.E Jacob Zuma, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, World Bank president Robert Zoellick, CNN founder Ted Turner, billionaire businessman Richard Branson are attending and expected to attend this conference. Many celebrities who have been much involved in the climate change effect reduction efforts such as Angelina Jolie, U2′s Bono, Leonardo DiCaprio, etc. will also attend this conference. They will join actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former US vice-president Al Gore, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and a number of heads of states.
Some Climate Change activists are worried that Durban may become the burial ground for the Kyoto Protocol should the negotiation fails while some positively believe Durban will deliver a rewarding result.

I am mourning for Steve Jobs
Posted by Piseth under Computer Tips, Events, Famous People, Internet, Inventors, Mobile Phnone, Network, News Archives, Science & Technology | Tags: Apple, death, I am mourning, ipad, iphone, mac, Steve Jobs, Steve Jobs is dead |[2] Comments
Apple Inc co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, one of the greatest American CEOs, died on Wednesday at the age of 56. He had been suffering cancer and other health issues.
Although he is just one year older than Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve was never lucky enough. He had been battling cancer and health issues until his death.
Following is Steve’s biography in brief from wikipedia:
Jobs was born in San Francisco and was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs (née Hagopian) of Mountain View, California, who named him Steven Paul. Paul and Clara later adopted a daughter, whom they named Patti. Jobs’ biological parents – Abdulfattah John Jandali, a Syrian Muslim graduate student from Homs who later became a political science professor and Joanne Simpson (née Schieble), an American graduate student who went on to become a speech language pathologist – eventually married. Together, they gave birth to and raised Jobs’ biological sister, novelist Mona Simpson.
Jobs attended Cupertino Junior High and Homestead High School in Cupertino, California. He frequented after-school lectures at the Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, California and was later hired there, working with Steve Wozniak as a summer employee. Following high school graduation in 1972, Jobs enrolled at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Although he dropped out after only one semester, he continued auditing classes at Reed, while sleeping on the floor in friends’ rooms, returning Coke bottles for food money, and getting weekly free meals at the local Hare Krishna temple. Jobs later said, “If I had never dropped in on that single calligraphy course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts.”
In autumn 1974, Jobs returned to California and began attending meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club with Wozniak. He took a job as a technician at Atari, a manufacturer of popular video games, with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India.
Jobs then traveled to India to visit the Neem Karoli Baba at his Kainchi Ashram with a Reed College friend (and, later, the first Apple employee), Daniel Kottke, in search of spiritual enlightenment. He came back a Buddhist with his head shaved and wearing traditional Indian clothing. During this time, Jobs experimented with psychedelics, calling his LSD experiences “one of the two or three most important things [he had] done in [his] life”. He has said that people around him who did not share his countercultural roots could not fully relate to his thinking.
Jobs returned to his previous job at Atari and was given the task of creating a circuit board for the game Breakout. According to Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, Atari had offered $100 for each chip that was eliminated in the machine. Jobs had little interest or knowledge in circuit board design and made a deal with Wozniak to split the bonus evenly between them if Wozniak could minimize the number of chips. Much to the amazement of Atari, Wozniak reduced the number of chips by 50, a design so tight that it was impossible to reproduce on an assembly line. At the time, Jobs told Wozniak that Atari had only given them $700 (instead of the actual $5,000) and that Wozniak’s share was thus $350.

Bird that cannot raise their own offspring
The reason why I made this video was because I hate this bird, even I know it is their nature. Sometimes, I don’t even know why clock inventors use the sound of this devil bird in their clock alarm. I do pity the small bird (reed warbler) which works very hard to build their own nest and then has to feed the devil that kills her offspring. This is not the only bird that behaves in such way. There is still a kind of duck which leads the life in similar way. However, that kind of duck is not that cruel. They will just leave the eggs for other birds (gulls, usually) to lay and when the baby duck (chick) hatches, the chick will just leave the nest after a few hours without bothering the bird nor their offspring. That is acceptable behavior and not to be hated. Watch the Cuckoo and think for yourself. MPSINFO

Weekend Geek Collection

After having been busy which makes me away from my blog for a long time, today, I felt I wanted to make a collection of my beloved geeks who have changed the way I (and all of us) live. Some geeks may appear first or last in my collection, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are ranked first nor last. I love them all.
As in my disclaimer, it is to be noticed that these individuals who appear here in my list are not necessarily the single founders of their respective firms/products. They may be co-founders. The reason why I listed only these people and not their co-founders was because these are at least representatives of those in their team. Also, it was because they are commonly known by the public; there is no big deal. There still lovely geeks who are not listed here, but they are all in my heart.
It is also to be noticed that they are not just founders of the firms/products I mentioned in the list. In fact they founded a lot more than just what I mentioned. I just listed their most known firms/product they founded.
Note: Some founders here might have left the firms/products.
Enjoy loving them and have a nice weekend.

Wipe: When the attacker deliberately hits the ball so that it bounces off the blocker’s hand and goes out of bounds.

1. Impossible Folder or File Names
Have you learned that there are things in windows of all versions that are supposed to be possible but are impossible.
Have you ever been faced with problem when creating a Folder or File with any extension then it display an error message when you press Enter key? Then you just ask yourself why it is impossible to create such folder or file. Some might have been wondering if it is a virus which causes this; it is not.
See the picture bellow:

Here are the rest of names
PRN, LPT1, LPT2, (…), LPT9, NUL, COM1, (…), COM9, and CLOCK$
These names are the reserved device names that are now allowed to use to create folder or file regardless of extension.
2. Microsoft Word Trick
Open Microsoft Word and type this:

Press Enter Key and you will notice a surprising result.
